Industrial
Sewing Machine specialists
L G Sewing Machines Ltd are one of the largest independent UK suppliers
of industrial sewing machines. This is how we did it.
1956
-
Les Gent a well-respected sewing machine expert founded L Gent
& Sons to provide a one-stop centre for industrial
sewing machine application requirements.
- Initially
supplying the footwear trade, which was thriving in the East Midlands,
he moved into new and growing markets where the ability
to create specialised attachments established the company
as much more than just a sewing machine supplier.
1980’s
-
BAS computer stitch range of machines introduced into the UK by
Brother and L.Gent’s installed the first one into Clarks
Footwear then pioneered the range introducing
them into Europe on behalf of Brother
- We
committed ourselves to setting up separate divisions within the
company to focus on sales, service, jigs, clamps, pallet making
and training.
- Very
quickly, it was obvious that customers required bespoke engineering
solutions on the range of machines. This encouraged the formation
of our R&D department.
-
Over 300 computer stitch machines in the UK and
Europe supplied and installed by L Gent in their first ten years.
Expansion into computer based technology sees industrial sewing
machine ranges used by manufacturers of car airbags, slings,
webbing, harnesses, key fobs and wallets,
as well as numerous apparel applications from
knitwear to football strips.

Gent retires and son Tony Gent becomes Managing Director, who
